FLORENCE — The Wolking brothers will not let the music die.
Aaron, Mike and Joe Wolking are set to carry on the Sons and Brothers band without their uncle, Fred Wolking, who died last August, and their father, Frank Wolking, the band’s founder, who died a decade ago. The brothers will pay homage to their late uncle during a hospice benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Rialto Theater, 209 W. Main St.
“The benefit concert for Sangre De Cristo Hospice will also be a memorial show for Uncle Fred,” said Aaron Wolking.
Fred Wolking, who was a guitarist, endeared himself to his nephews by stepping in to perform with Sons and Brothers after their father died. He quickly became known as “Everyone’s favorite uncle” and also joined his nephews on stage during the first of many hospice benefit concerts in 2010.
The band was formed in Westcliffe in 1999 by Frank Wolking, who coaxed his three sons on stage with him to perform Americana, Western, gospel, country rock and bluegrass music.
“We were three rather young and nervous gents and their dad,” Aaron Wolking told The Pueblo Chieftain. “We put together a real set and had our first real performance at the Black Rose Acoustic Society in Colorado Springs.”
Also appearing on stage during the benefit concert will be Pueblo’s own Atomic Fireballs. Cost to attend is $10 per person and advance tickets are on sale at Vintage Revival, 701 Main St. in Canon City, or The Pour House, 202 W. Main St., in Florence.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
